How to buy quality Bosheng solid wood furniture

There is a lot to pay attention to when buying solid wood furniture, but most shoppers do not know what matters, and it is easy to make an expensive mistake. To save you some detours, here are the four things we would check.

1. The wood

Choosing a species is not simply a matter of what looks good. Some woods move a lot with changes in humidity and temperature. If your local climate is changeable, with a lot of rain or big temperature swings, avoid the species that are prone to warping.

2. The adhesives

Many solid wood wardrobes still rely on glue at the joints. Ask whether the adhesive meets the relevant emissions standards. Otherwise the wood itself may be clean while the glue holding it together pushes the piece over the limit.

3. The hardware

Check that drawers are solidly built and that the screws inside are tight. Pull out every drawer and open every door to make sure they move freely and line up properly.

4. The surface

Look over the outside of the piece for knots. If you find a knot on one face of a board, check whether the same knot shows on the other face. A knot that runs right through the board is a weak point and a sign of lower-grade timber. Look at the grain as well: every species has its own pattern, and on a genuine solid wood board the grain on the two faces should correspond. That is how you know it is real solid wood and not a veneer.
